The Honesdale Roots and Rhythm Music and Arts festival has brought an estimated 50,000 fans to beautiful Central Park over the past ten years. June 18th will mark its eleventh year, with great music, arts, food and fun for all!
While sustainability has always been a goal of the festival board, the 2010 festival made great strides by becoming award winning for its recycling efforts, recognized by the Professional Recyclers of Pennsylvania (PROP). Improvements continue to be made with each succeeding event to help further reduce the amount of landfill/trash generated at the festival; an official sustainability committee has been formed; a sustainability education tent is now located within the festival area; the collection of food waste/compostables is going strong; and a team of volunteers has been organized to help educate and guide festival goers when disposing of their trash at each of the waste disposal stations throughout the park!
Since great efforts are put forth each year to reduce the amount of trash being sent to the landfill, all foodservice vendors and operations are not just encouraged, but are required to use only compostable and/or recyclable foodservice products this year. You can purchase all of the compostable products you need from this site.
